Why Take the No Phone Zone Pledge? Nearly 6,000 people were killed and over 500,000 were injured in collisions due to distracted driving in 2008. The risk of you causing an accident goes up 400% if you are talking on the phone while you are driving, which is similar to driving intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of .08. The risk of you causing an accident goes up 800% if you are texting on the phone while driving.* If someone died today because you were talking or texting on a cell phone while driving, what would you do? How would you feel if someone in you family or someone you knew was killed by someone talking or texting on their cell phone while driving? Would you get involved? Before the next mother, father, daughter, son, or friend has to die, let's put an end to distracted driving today. Take the pledge now; ask your family and friends to do the same. Let's start saving lives. * Information provided by NHTSA and University of Utah's Applied Cognition Lab.
